Technical Requirements for Online Therapy

Important details for TeleHealth sessions:

  1. Ensure a reliable internet connection with fast bandwidth, including a good upload speed.
  2. Choose a private space for your session to maintain confidentiality, and consider using a smartphone white noise app to block any unintended listeners.
  3. Treat the virtual session as if you were in the office, sitting near each other without distractions like eating or engaging with your computer or phone.
  4. When sitting side-by-side, avoid positioning one person significantly forward, as it can disrupt the balance.
  5. Preferably, use a laptop or computer with video capability over a mobile device or tablet. If using a mobile device, prop it up in a stable location—avoid holding it during the session.
  6. Expect an email with an invitation to join the video conference. Use the provided password and ID to enter the session. Rest assured, CHC sessions are secure from unauthorized access, as Teletherapy is conducted through HIPAA-Compliant Zoom, ensuring encryption and compliance with federal and state privacy laws. If Zoom is not preferable, Teams is another option.
  7. Consider using an ethernet cable to directly connect your computer or laptop to the modem for improved call quality. Without an ethernet connection, be prepared for occasional technological blips, though re-logging may enhance the connection on the second attempt.
