COUPLES THERAPY AND NEW WAYS OF CONNECTING

Carol Corcoran, LCMFT, LMFT is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist who guides couples in ways to help them feel safe enough to bridge the gap of loneliness and isolation and reconnect with one another by providing an environment that is safe, supportive and compassionate.

• Do you have a new relationship with struggles? If so, view new couples.

• If you have been married or together for some time and are experiencing relationship problems, view couples in conflict.

Carol guides the couple in understanding the old patterns that high jack their relationship, and helps them find new ways to alter those emotional and behavioral patterns. This allows them to no longer feel misunderstood and out of control. Once safe enough to understand their relationship patterns and how they got off track, the couple will be assisted to create a deeper more meaningful level of connection where they will be begin to build a bridge to their hearts and once again compassionately face one another. Additional challenges to be faced and worked through include blended family challenges, adoption processes and tools for co-parenting.

Carol Corcoran, LCMFT, LMFT has trained under Dr. Sue Johnson, the Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Ottawa Couple and Family Institute Inc. Watch Sue Johnson's EFT presentation at HoldMeTight.net to learn more. Carol also did her advanced training with Scott R. Woolley, PhD, Professor and Systemwide Director Marital and Family Therapy Graduate Program at Alliant International University in California. Learn more about EFT therapy and watch a video by Dr. Woolley.

Because there are almost as many different types of couple's therapy as there are therapists, Carol utilizes the most well researched therapeutic approaches. These have been demonstrated to provided the best outcome in combination with a nurturing environment in which she assists partners to be better able to share their deeper feelings more safely with one another.

* As a couple and family therapist, Carol also has extensive knowledge and experience in the area of domestic violence or relationship aggression. This is vitally important as many couples therapists do not have specialized training in this area which can lead to troubling results for one or both partners should aggressive behaviors escalate between sessions. She has also been trained to work with couples where one or both partners may have issues with substance dependence or substance abuse. Depending on the level of aggression and substance dependence, couples therapy may be contraindicated until those issues can be more clearly resolved.
